I cover a wide range of locations, but if your area isn’t listed, please don’t hesitate to call. I’m happy to discuss your project and see what I can do to help. I always try to accommodate clients whenever possible, so location shouldn’t be a barrier to getting your project done.
I carry out a wide range of building and property improvement work. This includes garden work, building walls, block work, brickwork, rendering, floor installation, and wall installations. I also specialise in plastering and kitchen renovations.
For larger projects that require extra hands, I work with reliable and trusted tradespeople I’ve partnered with over the years, ensuring all work is completed to a high standard.
Yes, restoration work is a key part of what I do. I recently completed a project on an old farmhouse in rural France, which brought its own unique challenges. Working on older properties requires careful attention to detail and a focus on preserving the character and original features of the building.
Rural properties often come with additional considerations, such as uneven foundations, traditional construction methods, and sourcing authentic materials. My experience in these environments allows me to tackle these challenges effectively, ensuring that the property is restored with respect for its history while meeting modern standards of safety and quality
Yes, I carry full public liability insurance and follow all relevant building regulations. This ensures that every project is completed safely, professionally, and to the highest standard. Your home and property are always protected while work is being carried out.
Yes, I provide free estimates. I’m happy to discuss your project, look at the work that needs doing, and give you a clear and fair estimate before any work begins. This helps you understand the scope of the job and the expected cost with no obligation .
Some projects require planning permission while others fall under permitted development. I can advise you and help with the planning application process if needed.
Yes, I always treat every home with care and respect. I make sure the work area is kept as safe and tidy as possible throughout the job. I take steps to protect your property, minimise mess, and keep things organised while I work. At the end of the job, I always make sure the area is cleaned up so your home is left in a safe and respectable condition.
Yes, I take pride in the quality of my work and always aim to complete every job to a high professional standard. I stand by the work I carry out and make sure everything is done properly and built to last. My reputation is important to me, so I always aim to leave customers satisfied and confident in the work completed.
I usually work independently on most jobs, which allows me to maintain high standards and clear communication throughout the project. For larger projects, I work alongside a small group of reliable and trusted tradespeople who I’ve worked with on many occasions. These are skilled professionals I know well and trust to deliver the same level of quality and care.
When a bigger job requires extra hands, we split the workload evenly so the project runs smoothly and efficiently, while ensuring the work is completed to a high standard. This approach allows me to keep things well-managed while giving you the reassurance that experienced and dependable tradespeople are involved when needed.
No, I do not carry out painting and decorating work. My focus is on building and structural work such as plastering, brickwork, block work, rendering, garden walls, wall installations, and floor insulation etc. By specialising in these areas, I can ensure the work I do is completed to a high standard. If needed, I am able to recommend reliable decorators I trust.
Start times depend on my current workload and the size of the project. Once we discuss the job and agree on the details, I’ll give you a clear idea of when I can begin and how long the work is expected to take.
I’m not officially qualified as a roofer, so I don’t carry out roofing work myself. However, over the years I have worked closely with DG Holmes Roofing a reliable and trusted roofer. For projects that involve roofing, I can coordinate and work alongside them, and even assist when extra hands are needed. Through years of experience and passion for building, I’ve picked up skills that allow me to support roofing work safely and effectively. This ensures everything runs smoothly.
I can undertake work on housing association and council-owned properties, but only under specific conditions. I generally focus on larger projects such as extensions, major refurbishments, or structural alterations, and do not usually take on smaller repairs or maintenance jobs for these types of homes. This is because larger projects tend to have clearly defined scopes and formal approvals in place, which helps ensure everything runs smoothly and remains fully compliant with regulations.
In many cases, councils and housing associations prefer to use their own in-house teams or approved contractors, particularly for smaller or routine works. This can limit the involvement of external builders like me unless the project is substantial and all necessary permissions have been granted.
Before I can provide a quote or begin any work, planning permission and all required approvals from the housing association or local council must already be in place. While im happy to offer general guidance, obtaining these permissions is the responsibility of the homeowner or tenant. I also require supporting documentation, including approved planning permission (where applicable), written consent from the housing provider, and architectural drawings or specifications.
I do not start or continue any work without the proper approvals, as this protects both you and myself from potential legal or financial issues. If your project involves significant alterations and you already have the necessary permissions in place, feel free to get in touch and we’ll be happy to discuss your plans and arrange a consultation.
II’m very happy to work in homes with pets, and I truly love all kinds of animals. That said, my priority, alongside completing your project, is ensuring both clients and pets are safe, comfortable, and not unnecessarily stressed. Building work can often involve loud noises like drilling, cutting, or demolition, unfamiliar people, and changes to the home environment. For your pets’ well-being, I recommend keeping them out of the immediate work area whenever possible, as this helps protect them from hazards and reduces stress caused by noise and disruption. If the project is particularly large, noisy, or ongoing, it may be worth considering temporary arrangements during work hours, such as having your pet stay with friends or family members, or in a familiar alternative environment. I understand this isn’t always possible, so I’ll always communicate clearly about when louder or more disruptive work is scheduled. When pets remain at home, I suggest keeping them in a separate, secure room away from the work zone. I’ll also keep you updated throughout the project so you can make the best decisions for your pets’ comfort and safety. Your pets’ well-being matters, and I’ll always aim to work in a way that’s respectful to both your home and your animals.
Yes, i am happy to work with clients who are disabled or neurodivergent. I aim to be respectful, understanding, and flexible in how I carry out our work to ensure the process is as comfortable and stress-free as possible.
Every client has different needs, so I will encourage open communication from the start. Whether that means adjusting working hours, keeping noise and disruption to a minimum where possible, or clearly explaining each stage of the project, I will always do my best to accommodate individual requirements where possible.
For larger projects, I can also work alongside any support workers, family members, or representatives involved to ensure everything runs smoothly and safely.
Please also note that due to the nature of construction work, plans can occasionally change, particularly because of weather conditions. In some cases, certain jobs cannot be carried out safely or to a proper standard in the rain. While this is rare, there may be times when I need to cancel or reschedule a working day at short notice. I always aim to minimise disruption and will keep you informed as early as possible if any changes are needed.
As with all projects, clear access, agreed schedules, and any necessary permissions must be in place before work begins. If there are specific requirements or considerations I should be aware of, please let us know when getting in touch so we can plan accordingly.
No, I do not refuse work based on a client’s political views, religion, or personal beliefs. I treat all clients with respect and professionalism, regardless of background or beliefs.
I welcome and accept clients from all walks of life, including people of all genders, sexual orientations, and identities. Whether you are trans, gay, or otherwise, it makes no difference to us. Our focus is on providing a professional service to everyone.
If you have specific pronouns you would like to be addressed by, I am more than happy to try and accommodate this. Like anyone, i am human and may occasionally make an unintentional mistake, but there is always respect behind my approach and i will do my best to get it right.
My priority is the work itself and maintaining a positive, respectful working environment. The only circumstances where i would decline or stop work are if there are issues such as unsafe working conditions, lack of required permissions, or inappropriate behaviour.
We expect mutual respect on all projects so that the work can be completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
"I’ve tried to cover as many questions as possible to make things easier, comfortable, and reassuring for you. But if I haven’t addressed everything and you have a question, please don’t hesitate to get in touch, I’m always happy to help" - Fatboy Skim.
